Congratulations to Troop 327’s newest Eagle Scouts!

Congratulations to Hayden Kappesser and Cameron Harris, who both successfully completed their Eagle Board of Review this week and earned the rank of Eagle Scout! Your hard work and dedication have paid off, and the entire Troop is very proud of you both! Since July, Troop 327 has had seven Scouts earn the rank of Eagle! We have two more Scouts, J. T. Evans and Adam Fish, who have submitted their application for Eagle and will have their Board of Review in the next couple of months. If successful, they will bring our total number of new Eagle Scouts to nine in less than 12 months! This is a remarkable accomplishment in any year, but this is especially amazing, considering all nine will have completed their Eagle rank during the COVID-19 pandemic. Congratulations to all our new Eagle Scouts, Eagle Scout candidates, and their families. You have much to celebrate this holiday season!

2021 Summer Camp (6/13 – 6/19)

With the first snowfall of winter, now is the perfect time to start thinking about warmer weather and 2021 Summer Camp! We have our “regular” campsite (Site 4) reserved for June 13-19 (Week 2) at Camp Crooked Creek. Merit Badge registration will open on March 5th, so start planning your class schedule now! The Early Bird cost is $305 per Scout. A deposit of $75 is due by March 5th to register for Merit Badges. The balance will be due by May 3rd. This year for the first time, they are offering a week-long Search & Rescue High Adventure Program for Scouts 14 years of age and older. For our newer Scouts, they will be offering pre-camp "Open House" tours with an opportunity to meet some of the Summer Camp staff and get the lay of the land. A big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in Scouting for Food. The Pack had 18 adults & 23 Scouts put in 86 hours to deliver 1680 flyers. The Troop had 15 adults & 18 Scouts put in 62 hours to pick up over 2,070 food items from over 165 houses & delivered them to local food banks. Another Troop 327 Wood Badger!

Congratulations to Scoutmaster Chris Kappesser on earning his Wood Badge! Mr. Kappesser received his Wood Badge beads, neckerchief and woggle at last Monday’s meeting, marking the successful completion of his Wood Badge training.

Wood Badge is the most advanced adult leader training available. A Scouter participating in Wood Badge has the opportunity to understand Scouting as a family of interrelated, values-based programs providing age-appropriate activities for youth. It recognizes contemporary leadership concepts and will help the participant discover how they are relevant to the Scouting movement and apply the skills learned as a member of a successful working team.

Wood Badge training is available to ANY registered adult leader. You do NOT have to be an “experienced” Scouter or expert in Scoutcraft to attend. As any of us fellow Wood Badgers would tell you, Wood Badge training is fun, very worthwile, and applicable to your everyday life outside of Scouting, even at home or work.

If you are interested in finding out more about Wood Badge, please reach out to Mr. Hiland or Mr. Kappesser.

COVID-19 Meeting Requirements

We have been asked by the Parish office to remind all Scouts, adult leaders and parents of the COVID-19 requirements during our meetings and other activities while on the St. Albert campus.
  1. Please do not attend the meeting if you have a temperature greater than 100.4 or have been sick or experienced any symptoms of COVID-19.  We will begin taking the temperatures of all Scouts and other participants, including adults, before the start of each meeting.  Please check your temperature at home first!  Parents, if you are dropping your child off for the meeting, please do not leave until his temperate has been taken.
  2. Masks must be worn indoors while on the St. Albert campus at all times, unless eating or drinking.
  3. We will continue to meet outdoors, unless there is inclement weather.  We are asking Scouts and adults to wear masks outdoors, unless doing physical activity.
  4. Please remember to social distance, indoors and outdoors, by remaining at least six feet apart.
  5. Please bring a bottle of water to each meeting and use the restroom before leaving home.  Several Scouts have been entering the building to get drinks of water and use the restroom.  We want to avoid this and stay out of the building as much possible.
  6. If you have any questions or concerns, please address them with Mr. Kappesser or Mr. Hiland.

You may have noticed that the troop trailer was missing at last week’s meeting.  On our way to Barren River Lake last weekend, we had an issue with one of the axels and had to leave the trailer at the Elizabethtown Cracker Barrel.  The trailer has been fixed by Skaags RV in Elizabethtown and is ready to be put back into service!  Many thanks to Rob W. for working with Skaags to get the repairs done and hauling the trailer back to St. Albert for us!

Summer Camp Blue Cards

If your Scout attended virtual Summer Camp, please forward your Blue Cards to Chris Kappeeser at chris.kappesser@gmail.com, if you have not already done so.  We want to make sure that everyone receives credit for the completion, or partial completion, of any merit badge classes they may have taken.  We do not have access to a roster of the Scouts who participated in the virtual Summer Camp, so it is up to you to send those records to Chris.

This includes any siblings or parents who anticipate joining us in any of those activities.

In light of current state guidelines, we will be limiting the group sizes to 10 or less.  If you have already taken the test, please DO NOT sign up.

Troop Meetings by Patrol

In accordance with the current state guidelines to limit group gatherings to 10 people or less, the Scouts will stay in their patrols and remain separated from the other patrols for the entire duration of the Monday Troop meetings.  We will NOT open or close the meeting as a troop.  Each patrol will conduct their own opening and closing.  Patrol Leaders will lead the meeting for their respective patrols.  The SPL and adult leaders will rotate through the patrols, as necessary.

Please review this new procedure with your Scout before the next meeting, so that they may be prepared for the different format.  We will keep this meeting format until the state changes its guidelines.

On the site, you will find the latest troop news and updates, a list of upcoming dates & events, links to several useful forms & documents, and a link to sign up for a Scoutmaster Conference (see more on that below).  Special thanks to Mike Hasty for helping us acquire our own web address and getting the site set up!

All official troop communication will continue to be emailed via Scoutbook. You may also find the official troop calendar on Scoutbook.  We will continue to use the Facebook group as on online bulletin board and scrapbook to post reminders and share pictures from our camp outs and other special events.  It is our hope that the boys will use the site to stay current on the latest troop news, since very few of them receive the Scoutbook emails or access Facebook.

Important Meeting Information for Monday 7/6

Tonight (Monday 7/13), we will resume our weekly Troop meetings in-person at St. Albert from 7:00 – 8:30 PM.

Weather permitting, we will meet on the athletic field so we can properly social distance without masks.  However, when working in close proximity outside, or if we have to move indoors, masks WILL BE required.

Please DO NOT come to the meeting if you are ill or showing any signs of illness.  Please bring your own mask or cloth face covering.  We will have a limited supply of disposable masks on-hand.

You may also wish to bring a camp chair if you’d like a place to sit down during the meeting.

Tonight we will be recognizing several boys who have earned a rank advancement.  We will also be planning and preparing for our upcoming camp out this weekend.

Camp Cards:

All Troop 327 families were asked to purchase 15 camp cards.  If you have not yet submitted your payment and received your cards, please bring a check in the amount of $75, payable to St. Albert the Great, to the meeting tonight.  We must turn in our camp card money to the Council by July 24th.

All the funds we raise will go to offset troop activities during the next Scouting year.  We are asking for 100% participation in this very important fundraiser!

We can’t wait to see everyone tonight as we begin to put the “Outing” back Scouting!
